Shortstop known for his dazzling defensive plays; became a starter for the Detroit Tigers in 2013 after two seasons as a reserve with the Red Sox.

He defected from Cuba in order to become an international free agent in 2009.

He was named the AL Rookie of the Month in June, 2013.

He was born and raised in Havana, Cuba.

He was a teammate of Prince Fielder 's on the Detroit Tigers during the second half of the 2013 season.
