ABOUT JOSé CARDENAL

Journeyman MLB outfielder who played for such teams as the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Philadelphia Phillies, among others.

His first gig was with the San Francisco Giants in 1963; afterwards he went on to steal thirty-seven bases during his time with the California Angels.

While playing right field for the Chicago Cubs, he was named 1973 Cubs Player of the Year.

He once hit a police officer with a nightstick because the officer was arguing with his wife.

He became the last Phillies player to wear the uniform with the number 1, which was retired in honor of Richie Ashburn .
