Poet who won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for The Dream of the Unified Field: Selected Poems 1974-1994. Her other works include San Sepolcro, Salmon, and Spoken from the Hedgerows.
She attended New York University and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
She was the Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
She married and divorced William Graham and James Galvin before marrying poet Peter M. Sacks in 2000.
She was inspired to write poetry after hearing a reading of T.S. Eliot 's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.
