Model and actress who landed her breakthrough movie role as the titular Queen in the 2019 film Queen & Slim . She was previously featured in 2016's The Neon Demon and 2018's Nightflyers. She was also a mainstay on the TNT series The Last Ship in the role of Sgt. Azima Kandie. She also starred in 2021's action thriller Without Remorse .

She was employed as a banker while living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was convinced to become a model after meeting Pharrell Williams through a mutual friend.

Her acting debut was as a siren in the HBO fantasy series True Blood .

She was born in the UK to Jamaican parents and was the only one of her siblings not born in Jamaica. In 2019, she married Joshua Jackson . She and Jackson welcomed a daughter named Janie in April 2020. They announced their divorce in September 2023.
