ABOUT JIM HINES

Sprinter who won two gold medals in the 1968 Olympics, one in the 100 meters and one in the 4x100-meter relay. For 15 years, he held the 100-meter world record. He also played for the NFL for 3 years.

He played baseball at McClymonds High School in California.

He was the first sprinter to officially run the 100 meters in less than 10 seconds, clocking in at 9.95 in 1968. In 1970, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs .

He was born in Dumas, Arkansas but grew up in Oakland, California.

His 100-meter record stood for several years until Calvin Smith ran a 9.93 in 1983.
