ABOUT JELANI COBB
Writer and teacher who became a staff writer at The New Yorker in 2015. He has been a history professor at the University of Connecticut and a journalism professor at Columbia University .
He graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens, New York before attending Howard University . He later earned a PhD in American history from Rutgers University .
He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2018.
He is the youngest of four siblings.
He is the author of the book The Substance of Hope: Barack Obama and the Paradox of Progress (2010).
