Played Hilda Ogden on British soap Coronation Street for 23 years.

Prior to becoming an actor, she worked as a library assistant.

In 1985, she was honored with a Royal Television Society Award for her role on Coronation Street.

She had an older brother named Ken.

She was close friends with Betty Driver .
