ABOUT JAVIER ASSAD

Professional starting pitcher that was first signed by the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2015. He was named one of the Cubs' top 100 MLB prospects after the 2021 regular season.

He originally began his professional career playing for the AZL Cubs rookie affiliate tea. He pitched in 10 games with the team before being promoted.

He made his official major league debut pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 23, 2022. He pitched just four innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Growing up, he lived with his family in Tijuana, Mexico. He married longtime girlfriend Melissa Durán in February 2022.

He played alongside Nico Hoerner and Ian Happ during his MLB debut.
