He is a native of Buffalo, New York. He grew up with a dog named Mindy. He became engaged to fellow Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe in May 2021, but they called off their engagement in August 2023.

He was in consideration to be the next Bachelor but it ultimately went to Colton Underwood .
