Swedish convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who wrote influential commentary texts on the Mormon scripture.
He was excommunicated from the Baptist church on charges of adultery.
He was the first Mormon to propose the events described in the Book of Mormon took place in South America and the Great Lakes region.
His wife died in childbirth with their second child.
He completed his commentaries at the request of then-president of the LDS Church, Wilford Woodruff .
