Famous for her work in the 1950s and '60s Disney live action movies Swiss Family Robinson (as Bertie), Darby O'Gill and the Little People (as Katie O'Gill), and Third Man on the Mountain (as Lizbeth Hempel), she is also remembered for her work in the science fiction movies The Day the Earth Caught Fire and The Trollenberg Terror.

Playing the role of Effie, she made her cinematic debut in the 1957 feature Small Hotel.

Her television credits include recurring roles on ITV's Armchair Theatre and the BBC's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Born Janet Neilson Horsburgh in Blackpool, England, she was the child of Phyllis Robertshaw and comedian Alex Munro. Following a brief first marriage to film actor Tony Wright, she welcomed children named Corrie and Sally during her eight-year marriage to stage and screen actor Ian Hendry.

After co-starring with Michael Craig in the 1962 movie Life for Ruth, she was nominated for a British Academy Film Award.
