ABOUT JAM MASTER JAY
Born Jason Mizell, he was known as the DJ and producer of the influential 1980s hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. He established Jam Master Jay Records in 1989.
He picked up his first musical instrumental, a trumpet, at age three.
He was murdered in a New York recording studio in 2002. He played keyboards, bass, and live drums in addition to his turntable work on the album Raising Hell.
He fathered three sons with wife Terri Corley-Mizell.
He was the longtime partner of Joseph Simmons in Run-D.M.C..
