Bookkeeper who ran the business side of lithographers Currier & Ives.

He centered his education on being exposed to as much art as possible.

He encouraged his partner Nathaniel Currier to produce idealized images of the daily middle-class American life, which led to the firm's popular success.

He had six children with his wife Caroline Clark.

His company was famously mentioned in the classic holiday song Sleigh Ride, written by Leroy Anderson in 1948.
