ABOUT JAMES KERN

Tattoo artist who was known for his intricate design work and abstract portraits. He was the owner of No Hope No Fear Tattoo in Portland, Oregon.

He first began tattooing while he was in art school in Chicago in 1994. After practicing for several years without an apprenticeship, he opened his own studio No Hope No Fear Tattoo in Portland in February of 2007.

He was featured in an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch in November of 2017. He was also featured in an article and interview on Inked Magazine's website.

He got married in June of 2017 to Ashley Kern. He has a twin brother named Tim who also works at his shop in Portland.

He listed Steve Butcher as a fellow tattoo artist who inspires him in an interview with Inked Magazine.
