He began his career in journalism in the 1970s.
He has worked for media companies such as El Sol de México, XEX Radio, and Televisa. He has been listed on the United Nations Environment Programe's annual Global 500 Roll of Honor. In 2017, Maussan appeared in a video hosted by Gaia, Inc. where a mummified body supposedly discovered in Peru near the Nazca lines claimed to be "a three-fingered alien" was unveiled.
He was born in Mexico.
He and fellow journalist Jorge Ramos are both from Mexico.
