ABOUT JACK NELSON
Revered journalist who was considered a leading figure in journalism relating to the civil rights movement as well as the Watergate scandal. He won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on Georgia mental institutions in 1960.
He wrote press releases for the U.S. Army.
His bullish reporting style earned him the nickname "Scoop" while working at the Biloxi Daily Herald.
His wife was fellow journalist Barbara Matusow.
He was the subject of a smear campaign led by FBI head J. Edgar Hoover , who falsely accused him of being an alcoholic.
