ABOUT IAN ROSS
Notable for his nearly four-decade career as a presenter for Australia's National Nine News, he is also remembered for his later hosting work for Australia's Seven Network.
In the late 1950s, he made his broadcasting debut on Sydney's 2GB radio station. Several years later, he began his lengthy career as the host of the Today program on Nine News.
Tragically, he died of pancreatic cancer just three months after being diagnosed with the disease.
His early marriage produced three children. After divorcing his wife, he had a more than twenty-year relationship with Gray Bolte, going public about the fact that he was gay after retiring from his career as a news anchor.
He and Chris Bath both served as news anchors for Australia's Seven Network.
