Founder of the Dow Chemical Company. He made a fortune with a novel method to extract bromine.
He found a way to greatly improve the process of distilling bromine.
He found a market for his large magnesium stores in the creation of lightweight car and airplane parts.
He was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada.
He studied at the Case School of Applied Science, later Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, the same school President James A. Garfield attended.
