He originally played first base as a child, but was converted to a pitcher because of his inability to hit.

He helped the New York Yankees win their first-ever World Series Championship in 1923.

He had a son and daughter with his wife Ester.

He starred for the New York Yankees for 11 years along with Hall of Fame slugger Babe Ruth .
