ABOUT HENRY SMITH
Kentucky-born politician who served as Governor of Texas when the state was still a territory of Mexico.
He participated in the Battle of Velasco, an 1832 conflict between Texas residents and their Mexican government.
He passed away while participating in the California Gold Rush.
After the death of his first wife, Harriet Gillette, he married his wife's sister, Elizabeth. Following Elizabeth's death, he married a third sister in the family, Sarah.
Under the Texas government of Sam Houston , Smith held the position of Secretary of the Treasury.
