ABOUT HELEN HARRISON-BRISTOL

Remembered for her World War II-era service with the United Kingdom's Air Transport Auxiliary, this Canadian pilot flew a bomber aircraft from Quebec to Scotland to deliver it for combat on the European front.

After spending her childhood in Canada, Belgium, and England, she began her flight instruction in South Africa and quickly acquired her pilot's licenses in both that country and the United Kingdom.

In the years following World War II, she worked as a flight instructor and as a demonstration aviator for the Percival Aircraft Company.

In the late 1930s, she divorced Louis Botha de Waal.

She and Sheila Scott were both World War II-era female pilots.
