He worked as a lab assistant and dairy farmer.
He spent 10 months in prison in 1982 for fraud.
He grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, with his family before moving to Australia. He was married to Zoe von Uht from 1957 until 1962. He had children named Lauren, Brook and Justine.
He promoted tours for Louis Armstrong in Australia and New Zealand.
