Greek singer considered one of the most popular performers in Greece and Turkey. She has been commercially successful since the 1970s. She has 210,000 subscribers on YouTube and 10,000 followers on Twitter and 210,000 on Instagram.
She had wanted to study architecture but instead got into singing. Her first appearance on vinyl, on the album Asia Minor by Apostolos Kaldara and Pythagoras with Giorgos Dalaras was later named one of the "100 Greatest Recordings of the Century" by MINOS - EMI.
She took her artistic surname from a friend of her brother. In 2010, in the Gaziemir district of Izmir, Turkey, they named a street after her: Haris Alexiou.
She was born Hariklia Roupaka in Thebes, Greece. Her father died when she was seven, so her mother took her and her brother and moved to Athens a year later. She is of Arvanite origin on her fathers side and of Anatolian Greek origin on her mothers side. Her grandmother's family migrated to Thebes in 1924 from Seydiköy, İzmir. Her first husband was Achilleas Theophilouk, with whom she adopted a son, Mano, named after her friend and colleague, Manos Loizos. Her brother George Sarris was also a singer.
She has sung with and appeared alongside Melina Mercouri and Lakis Lazopoulos . She costarred with Christopher Papakaliatis in the 2022 TV series Maestro
