He had worked as a firefighter.

His daughter Vanessa announced that he was diagnosed with cancer at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards & Cancer Benefit Show.

He was married to Gina Guangco. His daughter tweeted a heartfelt message after his passing in January 2016.

His daughter's boyfriend, Austin Butler , also lost a parent to cancer.
