ABOUT GARRICK UTLEY

Best remembered as the first full-time journalist on site during the Vietnam War, he worked at NBC News, PBS, ABC News, and CNN through his career.

He spent most of his career at NBC News, at first joining as a researcher for The Huntley-Brinkley Report, then substituting for Bryant Gumbel on The Today Show.

He was about to report the verdict on the Roe v. Wade famous Supreme Court Case when he was interrupted mid-broadcast to report the sudden death of former President Lyndon B. Johnson .

He was married to Gertje Rommeswinkel from 1973 until his passing.

He received a little heat following his statement that President George Bush should not re-run for President for the country's sake.
