ABOUT GANESH PYNE
Painter and draughtsman who developed a poetic surrealism style and infused his work with Bengali mythology and folklore.
His career started with the Kolkata studio of Mandar Mullick in the early 1960s where he worked as a book illustrator and sketch artist for animated films.
He was the subject of the award-winning documentary film "A Painter of Eloquent Silence: Ganesh Pyne" from 1998.
He and his family were caught up in the Calcutta riots when he was just nine years old. This early trauma greatly influenced his life and art. He grew up listening to his grandmother's folk tales.
He was inspired by the cartoons of Walt Disney .
