ABOUT GABRIEL VARGAS
Influential Mexican cartoonist of the twentieth century. His award-winning comic strip, La Familia Burrón, premiered in 1937.
At the age of thirteen, he began working as an artist for a Mexico City newspaper called Excélsior.
He was the 1983 recipient of the Mexican National Prize in Journalism and the 2003 winner of the Mexican Prize in the Arts and Sciences.
He and his more than ten brothers and sisters grew up in Tulancingo and Mexico City.
He and Sergio Aragones both penned popular Mexican comics.
