ABOUT FERNANDO FERRER

This Democratic Party politician served from 1987 until 2001 as The Bronx, New York City's Borough President. He went on to run for Mayor of New York City in both 2001 and 2005.

After graduating from New York University, he began his political career as a member of the New York City Council. He later earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Baruch College.

He served as Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

He grew up in the South Bronx in a family of Puerto Rican heritage.

He lost the 2005 mayoral election to Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg .
