ABOUT FERIAL HAFFAJEE

South African journalist who came to the public's attention as an editor for the City Press from 2009-16. She has also held positions as an editor for the Mail & Guardian, the Daily Maverick and HuffPost South Africa.

She studied at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

In 2014, she was given the International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Her father worked in a clothing factory. She married writer and editor Paul Stober.

Pelasa Mahleba and Nana Meriwether are other well-known journalists who were born in South Africa.
