ABOUT FERGAL KEANE

Irish journalist who has served as the BBC correspondent in South Africa. His uncle was the famed poet and novelist John B. Keane .

His first position as a journalist was with the Limerick Leader. He began working with the BBC in 1989.

He was the overall winner at the 1993 Amnesty International Press Awards and was voted Royal Television Society Journalist of the Year award and Sony Radio Reporter of the Year in 1994.

His father was the actor Éamonn Keane.

He and journalist Richard Engel were both recipients of the Edward R. Murrow Award.
