She dropped out of high school to begin a modeling career at age 16.

She married John Mellencamp in 1992 but divorced in 2011. The couple had two children, Hud and Speck. She had a daughter with her second husband Jay Penske in 2013.
She met her future husband, John Mellencamp , while modeling for his album Whenever We Wanted.
