Scottish TV actress famous for her roles in EastEnders , Mrs. Brown, Play for Today, and Soft Top Hard Shoulder. She has worked as a producer on Shetland, Vera, and Criminal Record. She is the wife of Peter Capaldi .

She made her television debut in the year 1975 in Five Red Herrings.

She was a 1993 nominee for a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress in Soft Top Hard Shoulder. Her show Taggart received awards from both the Writer's Guild of Great Britain and the BAFTA Awards. EastEnders won 7 BAFTA Awards.

She and Peter have one child together.

She and Steve McFadden co-starred in EastEnders.
