ABOUT EDWARD LACHAPELLE

Glaciologist, professor and author who is credited with pioneering the study of avalanches and weather forecasting. He served as a professor at the University of Washington from 1967 to 1982.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the 40's and graduated with Physics and Math degrees from the University of Puget Sound.

He played a key role in the creation of the avalanche transceiver, which serves as a safety measure for skiers.
