ABOUT ED SMITH
Played county cricket for Kent from 1996 to 2004 and Middlesex from 2005 to 2008. He also wrote the book Playing Hard Ball.
He scored a century on his first-class debut for Cambridge University Cricket Club in 1996.
His 2004 book On and Off the Field was nominated for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year and The Cricket Society Book of the Year Award.
He met his future wife on a train that neither he nor she had originally planned on taking.
He and fellow Englishman Mark Harman both played county cricket for Kent.
