Dock Ellis
ABOUT DOCK ELLIS
Pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates who admitted to throwing his 1970 no-hitter under the influence of LSD.
He refused to play for his Gardena High school baseball team after one of its player used a racial slur to refer to him.
He walked eight batters during his no-hitter, and remembered struggling with his aim, with the ball and catcher sometimes disappearing from his sight.
He was married four times, with four children.
Jackie Robinson , the first black man in baseball, supported Ellis in trying to gain equality for all races in baseball, but warned him not to be too outspoken.
