He worked as a 911 dispatcher for many years before going on to start his own T-shirt business.

He also created a sold-out board game aimed at teaching financial literacy. Called At Home Banking, it covers real-world financial scenarios and small business ownership, among other topics.

He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He has six children, including Grace and Derrick Grace III.
