Pop singer-songwriter who became the youngest woman to write, produce, and perform a Billboard Hot 100 #1 single with the single "Foolish Beat." Her debut album Out of the Blue went certified triple Platinum.
She composed her first song at the age of five.
Also a stage actress, she played Eponine in the 1992 Broadway production of Les Misérables and Sandy in the London West End production of Grease.
She grew up in a musical family in Merrick, New York. She was previously engaged to Jonathan Kanterman. She dated Dr. Rutledge Taylor from 2008-2019.
She shared the 1989 Songwriter of the Year award with Bruce Springsteen .
