He played baseball at Elk Grove High School in Illinois.

He was a pitcher and designated hitter at the University of Missouri and was inducted into the school's hall of fame.

He grew up in Chicago, Illinois.

He filled in for Ron Santo on WGN radio broadcasts for the Chicago Cubs.
