She was born on Chicago's South Side to an Irish-American family.
Her famous soap opera character, Sally, was given her own wax statues at Madame Tussaud's in both Las Vegas and Amsterdam.
She was married to Bill Woodson from 1959-1966. Following her divorce, she married Kurt Hensch, who remained her husband for eleven years.
She and actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller were friends.
