ABOUT DANIEL FRANK GERBER
Creator of the best-selling line of baby food that was named after him.
He was a new father with a sick child, and he persuaded his father to use the family canning company to create strained baby food, taking the chore out of making the food at home.
His baby food went national in 1928 with advertisements in Good Housekeeping and Parents Magazine, and by 1945 sales of his baby food exceeded that of the adult food.
His father Frank Gerber owned the Fremont Canning Company to make produce for local markets.
He and Jeno Paulucci both saw an untapped market for a new kind of food and launched whole businesses dedicated to filling it.
