Professional journalist who rose to the top of her field as the editor-in-chief of the magazine Mother Jones. Previously, she was a writer for the Washington City Paper and a senior editor at Harper's magazine.

She received her master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1993.
