ABOUT CHUCK SCHULDINER
Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and death metal pioneer with the metal group Death, the band known for the debut album Scream Bloody Gore. In Joel McIver's 2009 book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists, he was ranked number 10.
He picked up the guitar as a way to cope with his brother's untimely death. He drew inspiration from artists like Billy Idol and KISS.
He was one of the first artists to combine six-string guitar shredding with aggressive growls and controversial, often gory, subjects.
His parents were both teachers, and they raised him in Glen Cove.
Schuldiner paved the way for extreme metal musicians like Anders Frieden and his group Flames.
