ABOUT CHESTER COMMODORE
African-American political cartoonist and comic strip artist whose work appeared in the Chicago Defender.
He dropped out of high school and joined the Pullman Company as a railroad mechanic.
His first Chicago Defender comic strip was titled "The Sparks." Later, he drew caricatures for the newspaper's arts page Accent.
He was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin.
He and Paul Conrad were both political cartoonists.
