Jazz musician and fingerstyle guitarist who helped bring Brazilian bossa nova music to the American mainstream.

He studied jazz theory and composition at the Harnett National Music School in Manhattan.

He saw combat in World War II.

He was taught guitar and mandolin by his father.

He was a frequent collaborator with legendary jazz saxophonist Stan Getz .
