American fashion designer who was popular for her cocktail dresses and party attire during the 1940s and through the 1960s.

She did not go to school for design, but instead learned the craft through working as a buyer in the industry.

Many of her original dresses are on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

She and husband Tom Rogers died within a few days of each other.

It was said that she was the favorite designer of actress Marilyn Monroe .
