Notable for her photo editorials for Harper's Bazaar and the Chinese and Japanese editions of Vogue, she is also well known for her runway work for Emilio Pucci , Ralph Lauren , and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as for her participation in Husky and Agent Provocateur advertising campaigns.
Before beginning her modeling career, she attended several semesters of medical school.
She found representation with both Traffic Models and One Management.
Born and raised in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, she and her younger sister are the children of a pharmacist mother and a physician father.
After establishing herself in the international modeling world, she walked for Belgian-born designer Diane von Furstenberg .
