Known for her sixty-year-long career as a journalist for Fortune magazine, this financial expert is credited with inventing the term "hedge fund" to describe a particular type of investment model.

After studying at Drury College, she earned a journalism degree from the University of Missouri.

She was a 1993 recipient of the Gerald M. Loeb Lifetime Achievement Award and a 2000 winner of the Women's Economic Round Table Award.

As the granddaughter of a novelist, she was always drawn toward a career in writing. She left her native Missouri in the early 1950s to pursue a journalism career in New York City.

She had a close friendship with famous investor Warren Buffett .
