ABOUT CARL GUSTAF XVI
Swedish royalty who ascended to the Swedish throne in 1973. As King, he holds the highest ranks in the Swedish Armed Forces. He is a member of the House of Bernadotte.
In Swedish Royal Court manner, the tragedy of his father's death and what it meant to not have a father was not discussed. He was only nine months old when his father passed away unexpectedly.
Besides wearing a crown, he is also interested in the environment, technology, and collecting old cars.
His parents are Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Vasterbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
He is the third cousin of Queen Elizabeth II . In 1972, he met Silvia Sommerlath during the Munich Olympics, and the two married four years later. They have three children.
