ABOUT CARL WILLIAMS

Former USBA United States heavyweight champion known best for his fights against Mike Tyson and Larry Holmes .

He was a two-time New York Golden Gloves champion before turning pro.

He died of esophageal cancer at the age of 53.

He had two daughters, Carla and Nijah, and a son Daniel.

In his 1989 bout against Mike Tyson , Williams was floored by a devastating left hook; he beat the count but was deemed unable to continue by the referee.
