He was a star football player out of college, and briefly played in the NFL for the Washington Redskins. He worked as a sportswriter prior to his wrestling career.
He died in a locker room altercation in which he was stabbed.
His real name is Frank Donald Goodish. He married Nola Marie Neece from 1968 to 1970. He then married Barbara Smith from 1972 to his death in 1988. They had a son named Geoffrey Dean.
After his fatal stabbing, Tony Atlas carried his body down the stairs to the paramedics.
